This academy is to train law enforcement officers in tactics to effectively deal with a mental health consumer experiencing a mental crisis as well as every day interaction. This training is for all law enforcement officers in the State of Utah.
After successful completion of this forty-hour course, the law enforcement officer will be certified by the Utah State Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health as a CIT Officer.
CIT Academy instruction includes:
Suicide assessment and intervention
Substance abuse and dual diagnosis
Introduction to mental illness
Psychotropic medications
Legal issues
Elderly and children’s issues
Developmental disabilities
Intervention strategies
Scenario training
