MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

The Management & Leadership program is for anyone in a law enforcement leadership position. This no-nonsense, five-day course will teach you how to put effective management and leadership skills to work for you and your department. Youšll learn to make better leadership decisions, communicate more effectively, avoid costly mistakes and get the results you want. Also, with participants coming from various departments, this is a terrific opportunity to share knowledge of law enforcement. Plan on attending yourself or sending other managers and supervisors who would benefit from this superior skills program.

 

BASIC INTSTITUTE TRAINING PROGRAM (DAYS 1 THROUGH 5)

$499 PER STUDENT Classes meet each day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

DAY 1: MANAGEMENT VS. LEADERSHIP – Roles of supervisoršs personality and practices in developing individual/team motivation, development and productivity.

 

DAY 2: PRINCIPLES OF INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE– Applying individual performance skills during team critical thinking situations.

 

DAY 3: LEADERSHIP DURING CONFLICT MANAGEMENT – Includes development of conflict resolution methodology that can be applied within intra-team situations, classroom exercises, and analysis of personality assets/liabilities relative to attention control and emotion management under stress.

 

DAY 4: FOUNDATIONS OF EFFECTIVE TEAMS– Includes models of communication, active listening, communicating non-defensively, verbal and nonverbal communication, assertive communication, giving and receiving feedback, and team functionality assessment tools.

 

DAY 5: MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP– Putting it all together: Includes understanding work group dynamics, managing teams, group problem solving and managing meetings, developing problem solving tactical and creative teams, team leadership strategies, and characteristics of high-performance teams.

 

 

FACULTY

Dr. Thomas S. Miller brings a wealth of education and experience to bear during his leadership and management workshops, which are designed to provide practical, effective concepts for participating managers and supervisors to enhance both productivity and employee satisfaction in the workplace. Tom earned a bachelors degree in civil engineering and a masters in engineering management from Marquette University. During his Marine Corps career, Tom did a tour of duty as a Military Police Chief. He earned his doctorate in performance psychology from the University of Utah. Tom also teaches classes in psychology communication, management and science for the University of Phoenix. He is senior partner of Riteknologies, LLC, and Human Performance Engineering Consulting.

CERTIFICATION

A formal certificate will be prepared for participants who successfully complete the required course objectives. This certificate is presented by the Law Enforcement Leadership Institute.

OPTIONAL UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATION is available for the extra fee of $50 per student and is presented by Utah State University. This Management / Leadership certificate is primarily for those needing university certification to meet training requirements for various professional affiliations. However, any individual desiring to receive the Utah State University certificate may do so by paying the extra $50 fee.

The Law Enforcement Management & Leadership Training Program fee is $499 (plus optional $50 fee for Utah State University Certification). This includes all instruction, workbook and handout materials.
