UPOA Goals
1. By 2010 the Utah Peace Officers Association will increase its membership
to 50% of those who are eligible for membership.
To do this, the UPOA will:
Address each POST class explaining the history of, and the benefits
of joining the UPOA.
Advertise the benefits of membership:
Public Information Officer
Regional Representatives
They are responsible for contacting members in each agency
Update flyers
Magazine
Automobile Insurance
Advise members of the issues we support by using the Legislative
Representative and reporting on the web site
Encourage Payroll Deductions in each agency, or for departments to pay
the fee
Requires administrative support
Regional Representatives will contact each agency to promote
automatic
deduction
Regional Representatives will emphasize that membership results
in free
POST Certified training for the member (this may defray
some
agencies' training costs)
Recognize, at the Chiefs' convention, with a plaque, those agencies
who
have 100% UPOA membership
Announce the dollar savings to the department which utilizes
UPOA training
Develop a Membership Drive Committee
Enhance e-mail usage
Provide a web site signup
More use of the Regional Representatives
Ads in the magazine
2. Become more visible in the state
Create multiple decals
Member

Membership login for secure issues
Have a representative at the Sheriff's and Chief's conventions
Offer trades for free booth space (give them space at our conventions)
Appoint a Public Information Officer to explain to the public and media

Become a source for grant research
This would be available to agencies and other associations
3. Create a distinct identity for the UPOA through merchandising
(i.e. shirts, decals, hats, mugs, pens, pin, etc)
4. Emphasize lobbying for law enforcement issues
Law Enforcement Committee
Retirement Board Representative
5. Become a source for other associations
6. Become recognized as the association which represents all of law
enforcement
