Carbon County Sheriff S. Marion Bliss, 70, was killed April 23, 1945, while attempting to capture a murder suspect one and a half miles northeast of Price. Approaching the cornered suspect in a dry wash, Bliss was accidentally struck in the chest by a bullet fired by a posse member. The suspect was killed an hour later during a pitched gun battle with police. Sheriff Bliss was a President of the Utah Peace Officers Association.
