Agent Harton was operating his security agency vehicle northbound on Interstate 15 near 3900 South. As he attempted to change from the middle lane to the inside or fast lane, his vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle operated at a high rate of speed by an intoxicated woman. The collision caused Agent Harton’s vehicle to roll several times, eventually coming to rest in the outside lane of southbound I-15. Although wearing his seatbelt, Agent Harton suffered serious head injuries. He was transported to St. Mark’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect driver’s BAC was determined to be 0.16. Agent Harton was married and the father of five children. He is buried in Valley View Memorial Park, Salt Lake County.
