Officer Blaine L. Baxter
Salt Lake City Police Department
Date: September 4, 1935
Cause: Vehicle accident

Blaine L. Baxter had been appointed to the Police Department in March of 1935 and was serving as a solo motorcycle traffic officer on September 4, 1935. Baxter was attempting to catch up to a vehicle which was speeding southbound on what is now 300 West, approaching West High School.
At the intersection of 200 North, another vehicle turned in front of the officer's motorcycle. Baxter, in an attempt to avoid a collision with the automobile, veered east and struck a brick wall on the southeast corner of the intersection. Officer Baxter, who had just celebrated his 28th birthday, died later the same day with his wife at his bedside.
