PERSONAL EFFORTS RAISES STANDARDS

WE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT having our career at heart must guard with special zeal our efforts to raise the work to its rightful status of a profession. We must cause our citizens to look upon all law enforcement as a symbol of good citizenship. In the last few years we have witnessed a definite rise in the standards of law enforcement. This is largely due, I believe, to peace officers who take pride in their profession. Standards will continue to rise as we school ourselves in proper methods of handling all types of crimes in an honest and efficient manner.
We must take great care to guard ourselves against the disease of jealousy. This is one of the most common diseases to which we are susceptible. Remember that through hard work, patience and alertness the breaks may come to you. When a fellow officer does a good piece of work, pat him on the back. It will help him to climb higher. Don't feel bad because you didn't break the case. Individually we should interest ourselves in helping each other clear cases and bring culprits to justice.
Agents of the FBI in cooperation with this association have been largely responsible for our training throughout the State of Utah and I would like at this time to thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving their time and effort.

                                   Yours for Better Law Enforcement,

                                   LEN C. CROWTHER
