Pictures and patch on right: Ray worked in Page for the Arizona Rangers. The Arizona Rangers were actually a federal agency that was deputized in Kane County and in Arizona. They were the primary law enforcement agency in Page and the surrounding area during the time of the construction of the Glen Canyon dam.
Ray loved photography and re-took all the pictures of the UPOA Past Presidents, up until his death, to make them look uniform. They are displayed at the UPOA Office. He also was UPOA Historian for many years and wrote many articles for the UPOA Magazine. The following poem was one of the last contributions he made to the magazine:

MEMORIES
There  is  a  little  touch  of  sadness
As  I  sit  here  in  the  sun,
And  my  mind  keeps  bringing  memories
Of  the  things  that  I  have  done.

Of  timbered  trails  and  lofty  lakes
Where  I  hiked  for  many  years,
And  the  knowledge  that  those  times  are  past
Can  bring  me  close  to  tears.

The  narrow  paths  near  lofty  peaks,
A  lake  shining  in  the  sun,
A  Brook  Trout  fighting  on  my  line,
Was  part  of  summer  fun.

A  camp  fire  burning  in  the  night
And  a  sleeping  bag  unrolled,
With  hands  outstretched  to  the  flickering  flame
Where  the  nights  are  clear  and  cold.

With  stars  so  close  you  can  touch  them
As  you  lay  there  in  the  night.
And  the  lonely  call  of  a  coyote,
Out  there  -  somewhere  -  out  of  sight.

Now  the  days  have  become  weeks  -  months  and  years
Time  has  passed  so  swiftly  by.
And  I  suddenly  find  that  my  health  is  gone.
No  longer  can  I  climb  so  high.

No  more  can  I  go  where  the  eagle  flies
Up  high  in  the  mountains  grand,
Nor  make  my  way  home  on  a    hidden  trail
Across  miles  of  unspoiled  land.

Because  a  valiant  heart  that  has  beat  so  strong
Now  falters  and  fades  away,
And  confines  me  to  the  lower  lands
As  it  hesitates  each  day.

But  thereís  one  thing  that  canít  be  taken  away.
Itís  the  memories  of  days  gone  by
That  will  comfort  me  as  I  remember
Right  up  to  the  day  I  die.

Of  Golden  Days  and  High  Mountain  pathways,
And  lakes  shining  bright  in  the  sun.
And  a  camp  fireís  gleam  as  you  lie  and  dream
After  a  perfect  day  is  done.

Of  memories  that  come  rushing
As  they  comfort  a  troubled  mind,
And  remind  me  of  the  happiness
That  in  my  youth  was  there  to  find.

Of  a  lovely  wife  who  has  shared  my  life
For  more  than  fifty  years.
Who  has  stood  by  my  side  through  thick  and  thin
Through  happiness  and  tears.

Of a  love  as  lasting  as  the  mountains,
My lifeís  companion,  sweetheart  and  wife.
We fought  lifeís  battles  together
As we  traveled  the  pathway  of  life.

Now  my  earthly  journey  is  ending,
Maybe  today,  tomorrow  or  years  end.
But  my  memories  are  here  to  comfort  me
When  the  sun  goes  down  again.

My  final  sun  -  when  the  day  is  done
And  I  have  finished  this  world  of  strife.
Just  a  short  step  through  the  veil
To  an  unknown  trail,  and  into  Eternal  Life.

Where  my  sweetheart  waits  to  welcome  me
As  I  pass  through  that  open  door,
Where  our  love  can  go  on  forever
And  we  are  young  and  healthy  once  more.

Where  the  tears  and  loneliness  are  forgotten,
On  this  special  and  wonderful  day,
And  we  again  find  our  love  in  each  others  arms
Where  for  all  eternity  we  can  stay.
