Seventy-Five Years of Continuous Service by Combining Traditions

"My first participation in 1981 on the Pistol Range really set the tone
of the UPOA for me. I was given a gun to use by one officer and ammunition
by another. I remember standing between the two top shooters in the Master
Class wondering whether I should really be doing this. Both of them turned
to me, wished me luck, and then reminded me not to "crossfire." I didn't
know what "crossfire" meant, but from the way that they said it, I knew
that I didn't want to do it. Through each phase of the competition, they
took the time to help me undersatand what needed to be done. Even
though I finished with the lowest score of the entire convention, I felt
that I had been accepted as a member because I willingly took the opportunity
to try something new and because several members were willing to help someone
be made to feel welcome.
'This strong tradition of friendship and willingness to help fellow
officers is the reason that I continue my involvement with this great organization.
Over the years, by attending the conventions and the training opportunities
that have been presented, I have been able to become acquainted with hundreds
of officers and spouses. I number these individuals as my friends.Without
the Utah Peace Officers Association, I most likely would never have had
the opportunity to meet these wonderful people.
"UPOA members have a strong tradition of caring not only for their own
members, but for fellow officers everywhere. When the Auxiliary comes around
with tickets for sale, the charities that they represent have benefited
from a tradition of giving that has gone on for years."
The
Utah Peace Officers Association (UPOA) promotes the best interests of the
Law
Enforcement Family and the welfare of the communities it serves - since
1922
